A man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident with a car near the intersection of Moundview Drive and Rockledge Road about 4:15 p.m. today.

Lawrence police investigated the accident Thursday and closed Rockledge Road between Ninth and Sixth Streets for about two hours, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene minutes after the accident, and it was not yet clear how the accident occurred, McKinley said.

Police have not publicly identified the man who was killed or the driver of the car involved in the accident. The driver was not seriously injured and was being interviewed by police, McKinley said. No other passengers were believed to have been on the motorcycle or in the car at the time of the accident.
