Former KU football player Omigie charged with aggravated robbery

Chris Omigie, a former Kansas University football player, appeared in Douglas County District Court today charged with aggravated robbery in connection with a May incident in southwest Lawrence.

Omigie is the fourth to be charged in a May 13 alleged robbery of cash and marijuana at gunpoint from a man at a home in the 1900 block of Camelback Drive. Also charged in the case were Jeremiah Letrell Edwards, 21, of Garland, Texas; Joshua Edwards, 28, of Lawrence; and former KU football player Chris Martin, 21, of Oakland, Calif.

Omigie now lives in Texas, according to an attorney representing him in Douglas County, and is free on a $30,000 bond. He played as a junior for the Kansas football team last year, but was not listed on the team’s roster this year.

Omigie is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 5. If convicted of aggravated robbery, he could face between 55 months and 20 years in prison, depending on his criminal history.
