25 years ago: Planners discuss road to connect downtown with K-10

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 15, 1988:

  • Residents expressed their concerns at a meeting this week about a proposed road to connect downtown Lawrence with Kansas Highway 10. The Eastern Parkway Task Force discussed preliminary design plans to narrow Seventh Street from New York to New Hampshire street. The plan ultimately called for a road to wind through primarily rural areas in eastern Lawrence to meet K-10 near the planned East Hills Business Park.
  • The Sister Cities Advisory Board was in the process of trying to attract the first “sister city” to Lawrence. The group had been communicating with the French town of Chamalieres, but talks were delayed because the latest response from France had been sent by “sea mail,” according to advisory board chair Carol Shankel.
