25 years ago: Lawrence neighborhood wins approval of traffic reforms

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 12, 1988:

The University Place neighborhood won support this week for nearly all its proposed traffic reforms from the Traffic Safety Commission. The neighborhood, located between the south border of Kansas University and 19th Street and between Louisiana Street and Naismith Drive, had asked for traffic lights at 19th and Louisiana and 19th and Naismith as funds became available. The TSC had endorsed these improvements as well as a reduction in the speed limit in the neighborhood from 30 to 20 mph, the placement of a school traffic guard at 19th and Louisiana, and the installation of a stop sign for westbound traffic on 17th Street at Louisiana. The TSC’s recommendations were to be passed on to the city commission in the next few weeks.
