Veritas routs St. John’s

Veritas opened league football play in the KCAA with 60-12 victory over Salina-St. John’s Military on Friday at the Eagles Nest.

The homecoming game ended in the third quarter due to the mercy rule after Alex Lynch ran for his third touchdown.

Following a defeat to Frankfort and a narrow victory over Blue Valley Randolph last week, Veritas (4-1, 1-0) exacted its third blowout victory of the season.

Elijah Harvey rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns and passed for another score. Andrew Harvey rushed for three touchdowns. Harvey and Bryce Boland each had 10 tackles on defense.

“It was a very physical game, and we were glad to get out healthy with a win,” coach Doug Bennett said.

Bennett said the team is getting better each week.

“Guys are executing our line. Teams are doing a lot of stunting on us and changing up their fronts and blitz packages,” Bennett said, “and our guys are doing an excellent job at recognizing it. If you control the line of scrimmage, you’re going to have great results.”

Veritas, which is averaging over 52 points per game this season, travels to Kansas City East next week.
