A 25-year-old Lawrence man was charged in Douglas County District Court Friday with one count of criminal possession of a firearm and two counts of battery against a law enforcement officer.

Miguel Ayala was arrested Sept. 15 after a disturbance at Saint’s Bar, 2329 Iowa. Ayala was allegedly thrown out of the bar but continued to make threats. Police arrived and were battered by Ayala as they attempted to take him into custody, according to police. After police arrested him, they located a firearm in Ayala’s pocket. Ayala is free on a $25,000 bond.

I think when you post bond you only have to pay 10%, so it's really not that much.

Often times people use a bondsman, and a 10% fee is typical. So, he'd just need to come up with $2,500 if he used a bondsman, or something close to it.

There are an awful lot of American citizens named "Miguel" and/or "Ayala", so I'm curious as to why you think his name sounds foreign.

When he says "foreign," what he really means is non-Aryan.

Sept 15??? Want to bet he's back in South America by now? Here it is the 28th, why so long to make the paper?

I'm 99% sure he went to Lawrence High. I graduated in 2005 and he's my age, so again, I doubt he's "back in South America" or a foreigner. Get a clue, folks.

Did they check the long form of his birth certificate?

Aside from the fact that he was totally in the wrong assaulting an officer and having a gun in a bar ...this kid went to Lhs and graduated in 2005. Pull your racist/ignorant heads out of your a$$ and quit making assumptions.

You know, when I read a headline like that, and before I click the article, I correctly guess what bar it is, that's bad.

Saints in O.P, Ks had a murder take place in their parking lot less then a year ago. These owners cater to anyone who will pay their cover and have total disregard for customers safety. Don't go unless your packing.

Not enough bail for someone with a history of guns and violence!!!!

Lawrence High School's Class of 2005:

Miriam Aced, Ian Adema, Diane Alexander, Christine Allen, Suzanne Allen, Rachel Amyx, Jessica Anderson, Melanie Anderson, Patrick Anderson, Tony Anderson, Daniela Archibong, Andrew Armbrister, Angela Asberry, Erin Ashcraft, Cara Austin, Andrew Avila, Rosalia Avila Flores, Miguel Ayala, http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2005/may...

The rugged, 200-pound fighter's latest feats include the National PAL championship staged in Kansas City, Mo. He also won the 2001 Connecticut Junior Olympic crown in Willimantic last week.

Although disappointed last October when his appearance in the World Junior Olympic Tournament was canceled after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and at the Pentagon, Ayala has not lost any interest in his love for boxing. The World event was scheduled in Baku, Azerbaijan. Ayala had been selected to the United States squad after winning the PAL regionals in Lake Placid, N.Y. Paul Cichon, Ayala's coach, noted there is no limit as to how far the young boxer can go as he matures and adds more weight and muscle on his big frame. http://articles.courant.com/2001-12-06/news/0112061371_1_ayala-s-coach-national-pal-young-boxer

...Two brothers, including one who was a promising boxer, were arraigned in Superior Court in Manchester Tuesday in connection with a drug and gun bust in Squire Village over the weekend.......Ayala was arrested and charged with breach of peace. He later was charged with interfering with police after he became disruptive in the cellblock area at the police department......Ayala.''

Ayala posted $10,000 bail after his arraignment and is scheduled to return to court April 25.

His brother, the aspiring boxer, Miguel Ayala, 21, was also arraigned in court Tuesday on gun and drug charges.

The arrest affidavit says Miguel Ayala is the leader of a group of friends who steal guns, and Pagan is included in that group. http://articles.courant.com/2007-03-28/news/0703280639_1_arraigned-drug-factory-drug-charges

I'd be careful assuming this is the same Miguel Ayala. I checked into the article you posted and it said that Miguel Ayala fought at 201 pounds. I was in court for the first appearance, and this Miguel Ayala wasn't anywhere near 200 pounds. Maybe 5'4", 140 pounds.

No surprise. Saint's is full of trash. I made the mistake of going there once. I'm just glad it's out on Iowa so the trash doesn't make it down to Mass St. in the evenings.

If they know that the dude is a bad egg, can't they set a higher bond?
