A 31-year-old Lawrence woman pleaded no contest Monday to one count each of misdemeanor assault and mistreatment of a dependent adult.
Christina M. Annis originally was charged with aggravated battery stemming from a January incident in which Annis struck a man with a vehicle in the 2400 block of Arkansas Street, according to jail records and Lawrence police. The man alleged she put the vehicle into drive and hit him in the knees, which propelled him onto the hood of the vehicle. He said that after he rolled onto the driveway, Annis drove away.
As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, Annis additionally pleaded guilty to a separate incident in which she unlawfully used the debit card of a disabled man with whom she worked.
Douglas County District Judge Sally Pokorny accepted the plea agreement and sentenced Annis to one year of probation and ordered her to pay restitution of more than $1,500.

In the future, when this woman again comes into contact with the criminal justice system, they will look back, see only misdemeanors, and think she is less of a danger to society than she really is. If there is really no space in our jails, or if it's part of our policy to give second and third chances, that's fine. But if she committed felonies, let her plead guilty to those.

I know who she is and this action does not surprise me. What surprises me is the fact that she is still allowed to work with the elderly for in her past she is known to of robbed her clients of whatever she could get her hands on and allowed others to do the same. Sad, huh

I know her too. Can not believe she is still working with the disabled. And isn't it a felony to try and run someone over with your car?

This same lady was arrested for possession of a LOT of methamphetamine in 2008 (or sometime around then, I forget) and somehow all she got for that charge was 2 years probation. Also, she's got 4 kids and doesnt take care of any of them. oh, and she wants to be a criminal lawyer when she grows up...
