25 years ago: ‘Miami Vice’ star to receive award from KU

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 19, 1987:

Actor Don Johnson was expected to attend Kansas University’s homecoming ceremonies this year after having been selected for an honor. Johnson was to be presented with the “Buddy Award,” named for actor and KU alumnus Buddy Rogers, according to an announcement today by Mike Robe, KU graduate and chairman of the Theatre and Media Arts Professional Advisory Committee. A private jet was to bring the “Miami Vice” star to Lawrence on the day of the presentation. Johnson had attended KU in 1967-68 after graduating Wichita South High School and before leaving for the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.
