Eudora releases more details on detonated device

Interim Eudora Police Chief David Burger released more details Tuesday about a suspicious device detonated by a bomb squad Sept. 13 at a Eudora apartment complex.

The device was found by apartment staff in the closet of a vacated apartment at the Greenway Apartment complex, 1516 Greenway Drive, Burger said. Police were contacted at about 1 p.m. on Sept. 13 and the Leavenworth Bomb Squad detonated the device in the parking lot at about 4:30 p.m.

Burger described the device as being about the size of a Mason jar, chemical in nature, and more “incendiary than explosive.”

The tenant who previously lived in the apartment left about a week prior to the discovery, Burger said. At this point, police are attempting to locate the person, whom police believe is now out of state.

The remnants of the device also are being analyzed by police, Burger said.
