25 years ago: Traffic safety commission to decide on use of bike-path funds

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 16, 1987:

A decision had been made on the use of a $50,000 fund for sidewalk and bike path improvements. Rather than form a subcommittee to study possible projects for the funds, members of the Lawrence Traffic Safety Commission decided this week that they would handle the issue themselves, planning to determine the priority of applications and to recommend a series of projects to the city commission around the first of next year. At their meeting, the TSC had also recommended several unrelated measures, including reducing the speed limit to 20 mph in the 2400 block of University Drive, installing stop signs at Arizona at Eighth and on Alabama and Carolina at 22nd, and converting two Monterey Way intersections to three-way stops.
