Seabury football defeats Independence Home School for first victory

Bishop Seabury Academy football picked up its first victory in years, a 35-6 win over Independence Home School on Friday at Seabury.

The Seahawks (1-1) led 29-0 at halftime in their second game since restarting the program, which was put on hold after the 2009 season. Seabury lost its first game of the season, 38-0 at Topeka Cair Paravel.

Quarterback Joe Simpson led the Seahawks with 87 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, adding 103 yards and a touchdown through the air.

Patrick Gutierrez ran for 85 yards with a 47-yard touchdown reception, Fischer Almanza had a 22-yard rushing score, and Harley Holub returned an interception 53 yards for another score.

Marcus Allen (10 tackles) and Eric Shin (9 tackles) led the Seahawks’ defense.

Seabury will travel to Manhattan to face Flint Hills Christian on Friday.
