Kansas volleyball defeats LMU, 3-1

? Kansas University’s volleyball team dominated the first and final sets to fend off Loyola-Marymount on Friday and open the Golden Dome Invitational with a victory.

Kansas started the game with a 25-13 win and took the second set, 25-23, before losing in the third, 25-21. KU regrouped to lead, 12-4, midway through the fourth set and closed out LMU, 25-14.

The victory was the eighth straight for the Jayhawks (10-1), who are riding their longest winning streak since the 2004 season.

Sophomore outside hitter Sara McClinton led the Jayhawks with 14 kills. Junior middle blocker Caroline Jarmoc, the reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, did not record a kill until halfway through the second set, which KU coach Ray Bechard attributed to LMU’s game plan.

“They were keying in on our middles, and (Tiana) Dockery did a great job on responding to that,” Bechard said. “Sara stepped it up as well. We found that balance that we needed to get the win tonight.”

Dockery, a freshman outside hitter, set career highs with nine digs and nine blocks, including four blocks in KU’s explosive opening set.

Jarmoc ended the match with eight kills and seven blocks.

The Jayhawks take on Xavier at 9:30 a.m. today.
