Mo. museum displaying local artist’s photographic images

Lawrence artist Tim Forcade’s large-scale photographic images are on display in a solo exhibit at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph, Mo.

“Discovered in Light” runs through Nov. 4.

Forcade’s work is primarily large photographic images printed on various materials, including satin, created from photos of plants, water, ice and found objects.

But, he says, unlike traditional photographers, his goal is not to make pictures of objects but rather to isolate light as those objects reflect it — a technique that has been described as a synthesis between photography and painting.

“My photographs begin with objects chosen to affect light rather than being delineated by it,” he says in his show description. “I am fascinated by the light itself, when objects recede and light takes over.”
