25 years ago: Musicians, poets, artists gather for week-long event

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 8, 1987:

The River City Reunion had kicked off with a party at the Bottleneck, 737 New Hampshire, last night. Artists, writers, comics, poets, and musicians milled about while a film team from New York City, headed by former Lawrencian Mark Kaplan, collected video footage for a future documentary. Near the pool table, Allen Ginsberg said that there were two or three “generations” of artists represented at the get-together, several of whom had not been back to Lawrence for many years. The event was the starting point for a week of reading, performances, concerts, and films.
