KU student charged in attempted robbery

A 19-year-old Kansas University student has been charged with four counts of attempted aggravated robbery following an incident Saturday night in the 1100 block of Tennessee Street.

Jaden M. Mackey is accused of approaching four people on a porch about midnight Saturday and demanding money, said Lawrence police spokeswoman Kim Murphree. The victims in the case said the suspect was wearing a mask and held a pocketknife behind his back.

The victims refused to give the suspect any money, and the suspect fled. Police caught up with Mackey a short time later in the 1400 block of Ohio Street and arrested him, Murphree said.

Douglas County District Court Pro Tem Judge James George set Mackey’s bond at $15,000.
