A 19-year-old Kansas University student has been charged with four counts of attempted aggravated robbery following an incident Saturday night in the 1100 block of Tennessee Street.

Jaden M. Mackey is accused of approaching four people on a porch about midnight Saturday and demanding money, said Lawrence police spokeswoman Kim Murphree. The victims in the case said the suspect was wearing a mask and held a pocketknife behind his back.

The victims refused to give the suspect any money, and the suspect fled. Police caught up with Mackey a short time later in the 1400 block of Ohio Street and arrested him, Murphree said.

Douglas County District Court Pro Tem Judge James George set Mackey’s bond at $15,000.

Another example of extremely weak admission standards.

C'mon people. A KU student? Perhaps so. Maybe tryin' to raise funds for his text books. Yeah, I know...

If it was a hazing incident, there's going to be another fraternity shut down; surely the kids aren't stupid enough to send a pledge out on that kind of stunt. But then a student was stupid enough to commit the act...

Apparently not committed to the act. Something is fishy here. Act like an idiot and get caught just a couple of blocks away....19 year old? Sounds more like a dare or a hazing incident.

I applaud those individuals on the porch who refused to be victims. I truly believe that crime would drop significantly not only in this town but across the country if people began refusing to be victims.
