25 years ago: Environmental issues with trafficway being dealt with, official says

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 5, 1987:

  • Issues with the proposed south Lawrence trafficway were being dealt with, according to a federal official. Ken Bechtel of the Federal Highway Administration said today that problems cited in a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report from three months earlier were being fixed. Bechtel said that responses to the EPA’s criticisms would be presented in the final environmental impact statement for the 14.3-mile, $38 million road.
  • Ticket sales for the Kansas University football season were down, compared to last year. According to Diana Wehmeyer, ticket manager for KU’s Intercollegiate Athletics, season ticket sales as of this week had were totaling $18,912, compared to $20,180 last year. However, there was still time to boost sales before the first home game, Sept. 19 against Kent State University.
