KU’s Goodrich receives votes for preseason All-America team

Kansas guard Angel Goodrich (3) floats past Washburn's Brittney Lynch in the lane during their exhibition game Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Kansas University’s Angel Goodrich was recognized among the top college women’s basketball players in the country Tuesday.

Goodrich, a senior guard, received votes toward the Associated Press preseason All-America Team and was selected as honorable mention.

Fellow Big 12 star Brittney Griner, the 6-foot-8 Baylor senior, became only the third player to be a two-time unanimous choice, receiving all 40 votes from the national media panel.

Joining Griner as unanimous choices were Delaware senior Elena Delle Donne and Notre Dame senior Skylar Diggins. Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike (23 votes), Maryland’s Alyssa Thomas (19) and Baylor’s Odyssey Sims (19) rounded out the team.

Goodrich led the nation in assists per game (7.4) and paced KU with 14.0 points per game last season, when she was named All-America Honorable Mention by both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the AP.

Jayhawks at No. 25

The KU women’s team debuted at No. 25 in the preseason USA Today Coaches poll that was released Tuesday.

Kansas ended the 2011-2012 season at the same spot after advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, its best postseason run since 1998.

The Jayhawks play their final exhibition game against Fort Hays State at 2 p.m. Sunday.
