A group of area Marine veterans will mark the 237th birthday of the Marine Corps next week with an event at Kansas University’s Dole Institute of Politics.

U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran will be the featured speaker at the event, which begins at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Dole Institute.

The event will also include a performance by the Lawrence High School Chorale.

Anyone is welcome to attend, organizer Erv Hodges said. About 180 people attended last year’s edition of the annual event, he said.

My dad was a Marine in WWII and he said "They always send them where it's worst."

BTW, Jerry Moran is a chicken hawk who has never served his country.

Romney has FIVE grown sons and not ONE has served. What's up with that? Could it be that they are rich and priviledged and that service to their country is beneath them?

Nah, it's that "Daddy" is scared to lose one of his sure votes. ;) Seriously, why let one of his kids risk his life, when there are plenty of us middle-class schmucks ready and willing to step up? SEMPER FI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
