A Kansas University football player has entered into a diversion agreement with city prosecutors on a drunken-driving charge.

Justin E. Carnes, a 21-year-old junior and a long snapper on the team, signed a diversion agreement Tuesday for his DUI arrest Aug. 25 in the 400 block of Missouri Street. As long as Carnes follows the terms of the diversion, which include obeying the law and refraining from alcohol or drug use, the charge will be dropped after a year.

Carnes is also responsible for paying about $1,000 in court costs and must undergo an alcohol evaluation.

Following the arrest, KU football coach Charlie Weis suspended Carnes for the first three games of the season. In April, Weis also suspended running back James Sims for three games after a drunken-driving arrest.
