25 years ago: Former library employee memorialized by generous gift

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 25, 1987:

  • A longtime employee of the Lawrence Public Library had been memorialized by her family with a $10,000 gift to the library. Helen Osma had worked for the library from 1952 until her death in 1986, first as head of the cataloging and technical processing department, and later as acquisitions librarian. The $10,000 gift from her family was to be added to the $895 previously received for the Helen Osma Memorial Fund. The money had been invested, with the yearly interest to be used to buy art books.
  • Kansas University’s Phi Beta Sigma service fraternity announced today that they would host a Halloween party this weekend for children age 12 and under and their parents. The free party, to be held in the Kansas Room of the Kansas Union, was to feature a haunted house, a candy hunt, and a costume contest.
