40 years ago: Waste management, Oread parking on next City Commission agenda

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 23, 1972:

The Lawrence City Commission was scheduled to receive a petition at its next meeting requesting a city park on 4.2 acres of land located east of Harper Street and north of East Glenn Drive. Deferred from the previous week’s meeting was a resolution ordering paving of Lynn Street between Haskell and Bullene. The commission was also planning to consider a city-county solid waste plan recently recommended by a special committee. City Manager Buford Watson had suggested that the city cooperate in the general plan, which would make the city’s sanitation department responsible for all county trash pick-ups, with the possible exception of Baldwin. Customers would be required to pay for the service. Lastly, the commission was to consider a request for restricted parking in the 12th and Oread area. Businesses in that location were seeking restricted parking in order to eliminate all-day parking.
