2 men arrested in Ottawa after pursuit

A 28-year-old Overland Park man and a 51-year-old Paola man were arrested Sunday evening on various charges following a theft and police pursuit that began at the Ottawa Walmart, 2101 S. Princeton St.

According to the Ottawa Police Department, a Walmart employee attempted to stop the two men as they attempted to load two stolen televisions into a vehicle in the parking lot. The store employee, who received minor injuries, was hit by the suspects’ vehicle as it fled. The suspects’ vehicle then hit another vehicle but continued. Police began pursuit as the vehicle went north on Interstate 35. At milepost 193, the suspects’ vehicle stopped because of a mechanical failure, and police arrested the two men. The men could face aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, obstructing the legal process, fleeing and eluding, and theft charges, according to the Ottawa police.
