40 years ago: LMH changes abortion approval policy

October 18, 2012

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 18, 1972:

  • Under a policy change approved this morning by the Lawrence Memorial Hospital board, only the attending physician was required to approve an abortion for a patient. The previous by-laws had stated that the attending physician plus two other doctors had to ratify each abortion to be performed at LMH. The attending physician was still free to consult other physicians under the new regulation, but was not required to do so.
  • The new Geological Survey Building on Kansas University's West Campus was "almost a complete building," said Keith Lawton, director of facilities planning, today. The $1,360,000 structure at 19th and Iowa was to be named the Raymond C. Moore Hall in honor of the emeritus Summerfield Distinguished Professor of geology who had been director of the survey for 38 years.
