More home burglaries reported
The home burglaries in Lawrence continue.
Police responded to reports of several home burglaries over the weekend and Monday morning in Lawrence. Not all of the reports of the crimes are yet available, but Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley was able to provide details on the following cases:
• A resident in the 900 block of Alabama reported someone broke a rear sliding glass door and burglarized the home between Saturday night and Sunday morning while no one was home. A rock was used to break the glass door, and damage was estimated at $2,500. A laptop and numerous other items were reported stolen.
• A resident of an apartment in the 500 block of Eldridge Street reported that someone burglarized the apartment sometime between Thursday and Sunday morning when the resident was not home. Musical instruments, a plasma television and a computer were among the items reported taken. McKinley said he was not yet able to specify how the suspect entered the home.
The incidents are just the latest in a string of home burglaries in Lawrence since May. Despite the arrests of several people, the crimes have continued. While many of the earlier crimes involved suspects entering through unlocked doors, McKinley said police are beginning to see more cases where someone breaks a glass door to gain entrance.
