Jefferson County woman accused of child abuse, ordered to stand trial

A 22-year-old Jefferson County woman was ordered Monday to stand trial on several charges related to injuring a 2-year-old Oskaloosa girl in July, said Jefferson County Attorney Jason Belveal.

Lori A. Courter, following Monday’s preliminary hearing, will face trial on charges of aggravated battery with intent to do great bodily harm, child abuse and child endangerment.

Arraignment, where Courter will enter a plea in the case, is set for Dec. 6.

Courter was arrested after the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible child abuse in Oskaloosa.

The child, who is the daughter of Courter’s fiance, was hospitalized following the incident.
