40 years ago: KU athletic director expected to resign

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 18, 1972:

Wade Stinson, director of athletics at Kansas University for the previous eight years, was expected to announce this week his decision to resign from his position. Stinson, 46, was expected to visit with the Kansas Board of Regents this week about his appraisal of the KU athletic program and then submit his resignation. It was expected that Stinson would call a press conference within a short time to explain his ideas about the program, his predictions for the future, the current financial situation of KU athletics, and what he considered “out-of-line attempts by some individuals outside the official university family to play a dominant role in determining how the athletic program was operated,” according to today’s article.
