From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 5, 1972:

  • The Kansas Supreme Court ruled this week that an attempt by the Kansas Legislature to legalize operation of bingo games by certain non-profit organizations was unconstitutional and void. The high court's decision sustained an appeal by Atty. Gen. Vern Miller from a decision of the Allen County Court.
  • Law enforcement officials and Secret Service agents reported yesterday that they had seized about $100,000 in counterfeit $20 bills in a Topeka residence. It was reported to be the largest amount of counterfeit money confiscated in Kansas in recent years. Alvin M. Smith Jr., 30, had been charged with possessing and selling counterfeit money to a Secret Service agent.
