40 years ago: Local travelers prepare for opening of KCI

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 3, 1972:

Kansas City officials were working out the final arrangements in the switching of airport operations from Kansas City Municipal to Kansas City International at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. Airport parking during the switch was expected to cause some confusion. Travelers taking flights earlier in the week and leaving their cars at Municipal, then returning on or after Saturday to KCI, were facing a cab or bus ride back to the old airport to retrieve their cars. Yellow Cab Co., the agent subleasing ground transportation to and from the new airport, reported today that its buses would continue to make runs past Municipal on their way to downtown Kansas City for the first two weeks after the opening of KCI.
