From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 1, 1987:

A small crowd had gathered on a recent Saturday morning outside Kansas University’s Green Hall to witness the dedication of a sculpture by Taiwanese artist Ju Ming. Former Chancellor W. Clarke Wescoe and his wife, Barbara Benton Wescoe, had selected and donated the piece in honor of Mrs. Wescoe’s father, the late Judge Willard M. Benton, who had graduated from the KU law school in 1921. Benton had then been appointed to the Wyandotte County Circuit Court in 1934 by then-Gov. Alf Landon and had been on the bench for 26 years. The massive piece — 8 feet tall and 16 feet long — represented a large, crouching figure in a Tai Chi position signifying strength and balance.
