Two teenagers injured in accident northeast of Lawrence

Two Lawrence teenagers received minor injuries after a rollover crash Wednesday just northeast of Lawrence.

Sgt. Steve Lewis, a Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman, said driver Jessie Rust, 16, about 2 p.m. Wednesday lost control of a 1998 Ford Ranger as he was headed south on East 1600 Road and tried to turn onto North 1620 Road. The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled over on the gravel road.

Rust and a passenger, Steven Drake, 15, were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released. Officers did not issue any tickets at the scene, Lewis said.
