40 years ago: Boys’ Staters learn electoral process

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 30, 1972:

Delegates attending this week’s American Legion Boys’ State at Kansas University were voting in primary elections today. Over 1,000 high school juniors from across the state were participating in activities from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. every day while learning about the local and state electoral process.

A man who had taken 75 cents from an attendant at the L & M Grocery, 640 N. Third, was being held in Douglas County Jail pending filing of robbery charges. No further details were available on the robbery.

A photograph showed that pipe culvert sections were being unloaded and placed near the roadway near the intersection of 19th and Iowa streets today. As part of a summer project, that intersection was to be widened, along with the one at 15th and Iowa.
