KU track adds 6 to NCAAs

? Six additional Kansas University track and field athletes earned trips to the NCAA Outdoor Championships during the NCAA West Preliminary late Saturday at Myers Stadium.

Qualifying for KU on Saturday were: Paris Daniels in the 200 (23.09 seconds), Mason Finley in the discus (187 feet, 1 inch), Andrea Geubelle in the triple jump (46-6, wind-aided), Elena Krechyk in the hammer (223-10), Josh Munsch in the 1,500 (3.45.11) and the men’s 4X400 relay team of Kyle Clemons, Michael Hester, Michael Stigler and Kenneth McCuin (3.05.74).

“The goal coming in was to do what we had to do to advance,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said. “We had several athletes that did an outstanding job and some that were very close (to qualifying). Moving forward we have to look at some things from this week and evaluate in order to perform well at the NCAA meet. At this point it’s just about fine-tuning the athletes and hoping they are ready to compete.”

KU will send 16 athletes in 16 events to the NCAAs, which run June 6-9 in Des Moines.
