25 years ago: Storms drive LHS grads into Allen Fieldhouse for ceremonies

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 27, 1987:

As had been anticipated, the threat of thunderstorms had moved the 113th commencement of Lawrence High School indoors. Friends and relatives had joined the Class of 1987 in Allen Fieldhouse, and the crowd of about 5,000 had found the conditions inside to be fairly sauna-like. The weather proved more cooperative later, allowing graduates and their families to participate in informal photo sessions outside the fieldhouse. The recent rains, heavier than usual for the month, were expected to hang around for a few more days. Rainfall had already saturated the soil and flash-flooding was expected in the coming days.
