40 years ago: LHS seniors award Outstanding Teacher prize

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 26, 1972:

  • A second-page photo showed a roomful of large boxes, filled with individual packets, among the materials being readied for the opening of Boys State at Kansas University the coming weekend. The latest enrollment figures showed 1,105 boys attending the annual summer program.
  • Lawrence High School’s Class of 1972 had surprised psychology teacher Larry Morlan with the award for Outstanding Teacher of the year. The announcement had been made by class president David Nottingham during the annual senior awards assembly. Morlan, 27, received an engraved plaque from the class. “It makes it all worthwhile,” he commented. “You think you’re doing the right thing, and sometimes the kids recognize it too.”
