A distinguished professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Kansas University Medical Center is facing an administrative hearing on Tuesday to determine whether he will face disciplinary action for professional misconduct, according to a Friday court filing.

The professor, Curtis Klaassen, asked a federal court on Friday to temporarily halt the hearing, alleging in part that he would not have the opportunity to cross-examine witnesses that had provided written testimony to the committee that will conduct the hearing.

Klaassen and his attorneys have disputed the claims of misconduct alleged by KUMC officials.

In a statement released by KUMC spokeswoman C.J. Janovy, the university said it had followed its established procedures in the matter.

“That process provides for a hearing before a six-member faculty committee, which will review the facts and determine whether professional misconduct warranting disciplinary action has occurred,” the statement read.

Klaassen’s attorneys did not respond to a request for comment Friday afternoon.
