100 years ago: Date set for annual Children’s Picnic

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 24, 1912:

  • “Following closely upon the May Festival comes the annual children’s picnic at Woodland Park. This year the date has been set for Tuesday, June 4. On this day all of the children of the city will be invited to be the guests of the park management for an afternoon of fun and frolic on the green grass of the Park. This is the annual picnic that is anxiously awaited each year by the children of Lawrence…. The cars are to go out in the afternoon directly after dinner and in the evening there will be other special cars to bring them back home. The street car company has agreed to furnish transportation for all the children who go out to the park at just one-half the regular fare. This will make the round trip five cents. Those who take part in the athletic contests are to be carried free.”
