How to help: ECKAN seeks volunteer to assist with office tasks

ECKAN is in need of a volunteer who can provide three days of support at their office in the United Way building, 2518 Ridge Court. Volunteers will provide data entry support in addition to answering phones and other administrative tasks as needed. The days each week are flexible, and the volunteer is needed for about four hours each day. Immediate needs

• Four Winds Native Center is in need of volunteers to come help at its Garden Work Day from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. Volunteers are needed to help them prepare for the Lawrence Food Garden Tour on June 2. A lot of weeding and sign painting needs to be accomplished. • StopGap Inc. is looking for volunteers to help with its upcoming fundraiser event, a 5K on Saturday at Haskell Indian Nations University. Approximately 20 volunteers are needed to help with setup for the event, to direct runners along the route, hand out water and clean up after the event. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m., so volunteers are needed by 7:30 a.m. For more details and to sign up, please contact Sloane Lewis at lewis.sloane@gmail.com.

• Hidden Valley is in need of volunteers to come help out on its annual Trail Maintenance Workday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, June 2 (rain date: June 9). Volunteers will help prepare the property for Girl Scouts Day Camp by walking all the trails and cutting back honeysuckle, mulching trails, clear cutting around the site and clearing debris around bridges. Tools and refreshments will be provided, but volunteers should plan to bring gloves, a water bottle or cup, bug spray and sunscreen, and they should wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants and enclosed shoes. Any volunteers willing to bring chain saws are especially appreciated. Volunteers will sign in at the main parking lot at 8 a.m., located just past the northwest corner of the intersection of Bob Billings Parkway and Kasold Drive.
