40 years ago: KU students facing fee increase

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 19, 1972:

The Kansas Board of Regents today had approved three fee increases for Kansas University. As well as an additional $2 to go toward the student activity fee, students would pay $2 per semester to subsidize bus transportation as well as shouldering a $3 per semester increase in the student health fee to cover higher operating costs at Watkins Hospital. The increases brought the semester’s total fees to $243 for Kansas residents. Already approved to take effect in the fall was a $4.50 per semester hike to help pay for construction of Wescoe Hall. A staggered fee payment system had been approved for veterans, who would now be able to pay their fees in three installments per semester.
