Police looking for suspect in armed robbery of liquor store

Lawrence police are looking for a man suspected of using a handgun to rob a liquor store Thursday night in northern Lawrence.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman, said officers were called about 10:12 p.m. to Myers Liquor North, 1805 W. Second St., and dispatchers later made contact with a female clerk who said an armed robbery had just occurred.

The clerk said she was alone in the store when a suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from her. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot.

McKinley said the suspect is described as a white man with a thin build, approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a bandanna covering his face. His age is unknown.

McKinley asked anyone with information to call Douglas County Crime Stoppers at 785-843-TIPS (8477) or the police department at 785-832-7509.
