25 years ago: Police investigate Perry home invasion

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 12, 1987:

  • Two Lawrence men, Charles J. Baer and Jerry Nossaman, had been awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by the Kansas University chapter of Delta Upsilon social fraternity. Baer, KU professor emeritus of mechanical engineering, had graduated from KU in engineering in 1941. Nossaman, a 1960 KU graduate, had gone on to receive his graduate degree in dentistry from the University of Missouri and, after serving with the Marine Corps, had opened a dentistry practice in Lawrence.
  • Law enforcement officers in Jefferson County were searching for two armed men who had broken into a rural Perry home and had held a couple there hostage for three hours. The report said that the two men, whose identities were known to the sheriff’s officers, had broken into the home of Elmer Cottrell at about 2:00 a.m. Sunday.
