Lawmakers pass anti-Sharia law measure

May 11, 2012

— A bill designed to prevent Kansas courts or government agencies from relying on Islamic Sharia law or other foreign legal codes has cleared the state Legislature.

The Senate approved the bill Friday on a 33-4 vote. The House had approved it, 120-0, earlier in the week. The measure goes next to Gov. Sam Brownback.

The bill doesn't specifically mention Sharia law, which broadly refers to codes within the Islamic legal system. Instead, it says that courts, administrative agencies or state tribunals can't base rulings on any foreign law or legal system that would not grant the parties the same rights guaranteed by the state and federal constitutions.

But several supporters specifically cited the potential use of Sharia law in Kansas courts as their concern.

This is an important symbolic step to send a message to our enemies and those who would erode our liberties that or Constitution forbids an establishment of religion. Religious values can and should impact public policy but no one religion or religious code can dictate our law! In addition it will send a message to certain Judges and Justices who want to bring foreign sources into our law.

"Religious values can and should impact public policy but no one religion or religious code can dictate our law!"

What? Man, Chucky and David have to be paying you to come up with that kind of spin.

"This is an important symbolic step to send a message to our enemies" that we have lost our collective minds by electing these imbeciles who deal with this as an issue.

Be afraid! Be very afraid!

Glad the Legislature has time for this particular bit of hypocrisy and fearmongering. Once they get this crap out of the way maybe they can get around to secondary issues, like plugging the multibillion-dollar budget hole caused by their latest corporate giveaway.

Worst. Legislature. Ever.

Who says the 78-81 Democratic congress members are communists.

Perhaps we need a resolution protecting us from ancient, foreign Hebrew laws as well. Some of them are distorting the public space. I do, however, feel much safer now. Thanks for working so hard to protect us from this potential evil.

Let's see - the Legislature has wasted time on Sharia Law, the UN Resolution from 20 years ago, a prayer room (hmmm, thought a person could pray anywhere). And once again, no legitimate legislation. No job growth measures. Nothing but petty posturing and horse manure.

Shame, they have times for this egotistical nonsense but the real business is done so bad it is settled by law suits. Education, jobs and fair taxes, Not googy ineffective law. that passes. Shame.
