Woman reports robbery outside Wilde’s Chateau

Lawrence police are investigating the robbery of a woman early Thursday in the 2400 block of Iowa Street.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman, said officers were called just before 1:30 a.m. to Wilde’s Chateau, 2412 Iowa, where the woman reported she left the bar to get something out of her vehicle parked in the 1900 block of West 25th Street.

While in the parking lot, two people approached the woman, and McKinley said one of the suspects demanded a ride. But the woman declined. As she entered her vehicle to retrieve something, the suspect grabbed her and took about $200 in cash. He punched her during the incident. She suffered injuries but declined medical attention, McKinley said.

Officers asked anyone with information to call police at 832-7509 or the TIPS hot line at 843-TIPS.

In a separate incident, officers and medics were sent about 2 a.m. to the 900 block of Louisiana Street to check on a woman who had fallen down in the street. McKinley said the woman, who was very intoxicated, suffered facial injuries. Officers believe she fell while walking home from a bar.
