From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 10, 1912:

  • “Booker T. Washington will be in Lawrence on Tuesday morning to speak in chapel at the University. Mr. Washington comes to Lawrence at the special invitation of Chancellor Strong. His address in chapel is open to the general public and as many as possible should hear this eminent man speak…. The head of Tuskegee Institute, author, speaker and student, he stands for the highest example of the men of today who are forging ahead.”
  • “An effort is being made by the Federated clubs of Lawrence to have all of the milk supplied to the city analyzed occasionally during the hot weather. Prof. Jackson of the chemistry department of the university has kindly volunteered to analyze, free of charge, any sample of milk brought to him. Already he has made a number of tests for butterfat and has found that the milk of different dairies varies considerably.”
