The Lawrence Community Shelter will benefit from Kansas University’s men’s basketball team’s loss to the University of Kentucky in the NCAA championship game.

Because of a wager between Gov. Sam Brownback and Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, Brownback will send 440 Kansas steak burgers to the Hope Shelter in Lexington, Ken.

In addition, Brownback Tuesday will deliver 120 steak burgers to the Lawrence Community Shelter.

“Like Gov. Brownback, we were cheering for a different result of the basketball game, but as a second outcome everyone at the Lawrence Community Shelter is grateful to the governor for this delicious and generous gift as a slam dunk of another sort,” LCS Executive Director Loring Henderson said.

Brownback said, “Gov. Beshear and I are very appreciative of the work done by organizations like the Hope Center and Lawrence Community Shelter.

“They provide the bridge that families and individuals need to get their lives back on track,” he said.

Brownback also thanked the Kansas City Steak Co. which helped provide the Kansas steak burgers and the Kansas Beef Council which helped arrange the donation.

Hmmm. I would have figured that the burgers would have come from Koch's ranch.

I not glad that KU lost. But if Kentucky lost the community shelter may be dining on one of the losers of the Kentucky Derby.

What an odd bet. The loser has to help the poor?

Probably the most kind act the Gov has done during his term...but still makes me wonder what he wants out of the deal.

I just hope he delivers the burgers in person and takes time to listen to some of the stories from clients. He needs an eye opener - especially since he wants to balance the KS budget on the backs of those in need rather than those in greed.

It would have been a bigger benefit had the loss resulted in Brownback being kicked from office.

So the Kansas City Steak Co. is donating the food, and the Kansas Beef Council "arranged the donation".... why is this being credited to Sam?

I bet he spits on their food before he delivers it, just to be, well, Brownbackish.

So typical of a Republican. They always play with other people's money. Sam, you placed the bet. You lost. You pay the price out of your own pocket.
