An upcoming softball tournament in Shawnee will benefit a scholarship fund in honor of a Kansas University journalism alumnus who died last October at age 22, just months after his graduation.

Drew Ryan Anderson, diagnosed with muscular dystrophy since childhood, worked as a copy chief for the University Daily Kansan and as an intern for the Lawrence Journal-World. His friends and family are trying to raise $30,000 for an endowed scholarship that would benefit KU journalism students who exemplify Anderson’s qualities.

Wendee Anderson, Drew’s mother, said that donations to the memorial fund can be sent to Wendee Anderson, 4435 N. 124th St., Kansas City, KS 66109. Donations should be made payable to “Just Drew It!,” which is a nonprofit organization to benefit the scholarship.
