Stolen minivan found abandoned in median of K-10 Highway

A Lawrence woman’s minivan that was reported missing was found abandoned on Kansas Highway 10 east of Lawrence Thursday morning.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman, said police received a call about 4:38 a.m. Thursday about a man reportedly checking for unlocked car doors in the 1500 block of East 23rd Street. About 20 minutes later, officers were notified of a vehicle without lights on traveling east in the westbound lanes of K-10. Police later found the minivan abandoned in the median just outside the city limits near Noria Road.

The owner of the van, a 1990 GMC Safari valued at $1,000, reported her vehicle missing from the 2200 block of Harper Street, which is just a few blocks from where police originally were called. The keys were not with the vehicle when officers located it, but they did find a suspect in the area and questioned him. No one was arrested, but McKinley said officers sent information about the case to prosecutors.
