Delays expected on northbound Kansas River bridge

Motorists on Wednesday should expect longer than normal delays as they travel through the construction zone on the northbound Kansas River bridge in downtown Lawrence.

Crews will begin a new phase of repaving work on the northbound bridge, which will require more equipment in the area.

One lane of traffic will remain open on the bridge, but Kansas Department of Transportation officials are urging motorists to find an alternate route or be prepared for delays.

Once the repaving work is completed, the newly finished lane will need to cure for at least seven days before crews can finish the project. The entire bridge project is expected to be completed by early June.
