Gift of health

To the editor:

As we celebrate National Doctors Day, we would like to publicly thank the physicians of Douglas County who volunteer with Health Care Access Clinic day in and day out. These 100-plus doctors share their time and talents on our team providing medical care for the uninsured, low-income of our community. (See the full list in our Friday ad and on www.wellcommons.com).

Those in need, numbering over 14,000 in our county, receive quality treatment for everything from colds and flu to diabetes and high blood pressure. Together, we give the uninsured a hand up to return to work and school, to go on to get better jobs, promotions and health insurance they can then use with these doctors in the private sector.

This partnership, along with physician office staff, Lawrence Memorial Hospital, local pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies and other volunteers provided more than $4 million worth of health care last year. Thank you, on behalf of our patients, for giving the gift of health every day.
