52-year-old Lawrence man in jail on charge of exploitation of a child

A 52-year-old Lawrence man who was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child remained jailed Thursday.

Amy McGowan, a chief assistant Douglas County district attorney, said prosecutors could make a decision about filing charges on Friday. The man was held in Douglas County Jail without bond pending a decision on formal charges.

The arrest apparently was made after police interviewed the man at the Investigations and Training Center, 4820 Bob Billings Parkway. Kim Murphree, a Lawrence police spokeswoman, said Thursday the case was still being investigated and that police were not releasing additional information at this time because of the nature of the crime and the fact that the victim is a juvenile.
